When we bring the Chime In experience to a team (and teach them to rock), we like to play around with making the music faster or slower. Starting a new song, teams tend to be timid and want to go slowly, but sometimes faster is better. Music-wise, the speed at which you play a song is known as the “tempo.”
For musical groups, tempo is very important–and it’s important for teams at work, too. Military units talk about their “operations tempo,” which is the speed that they like to perform their mission as a unit. Any team (sports team, office staff, bank branch) has an optimal pace to do their work–if they go faster than this pace, people get uncomfortable (and some members can’t keep up), but any slower, and they’re not getting as much work done as they should.
This is just one example of how the Chime In exercise uses music to teach you about your team, and how you can improve as a group. Want to find out more? Contact us, and let us make your team the rock stars you need!
